I finally found the Miller Speedway web site. Looks like the
old days at the speedway. I use to live in Miller from '62 to 1980, I
still have my trophy from 1972 that Willie Yost gave me when I was a little kid. Don't get
back much to Miller, living in Colorado and racing my 250 micro sprint during the
summer--takes away the time to have vacation!

From 1966 . . .  The Novotny Clan of
Ree Heights

I’m a Ree Heights native, my parents now live in Miller.  When I
was but a wee lad growing up, my dad – Frank Novotny, and
my brother – Mike used to race cars at “Central Speedway”
every Saturday night.  Dad and Mike would load up the car and
head in early, mom would drive in later – often dragging along
my cousins – Peg and Kim and Keith Fawcett.  Keith and
Cheryl still live in Ree Heights, not far from where I grew up.

I was “home” a couple weeks ago – and I made the trip back to
Miller early so dad and I had enough time to head out and see
the races.  It was a flash-back moment for me, the sights and
sounds, especially Skinner up in the crows nest chirping “Off
the Streets and On the Seats” and seeing Maggie’s Drawer’s
flying.  I had forgotten about the watermelon to the second
place finisher.  I’m glad you guys got the track fixed up and
back on the map.  It looks great, but I wish the pits were still in
the infield…

Attached is a photo of my brother Mike with his car – I’m
looking out the front window, my cousin is looking out the
back.  I’m guessing this was approx 40 years ago – 1966 or
so…

That doesn't seem so long ago to
some of us!

A Track with History

Miller Speedway, formerly known as
Central Speedway, has taken care to
honor its history.  We have kept the
best of the old while making
improvements in safety and creature
comforts.  Much research and planning
went into preserving the original track.
Thanks to the many residents of Miller,
countless racers and fans, for their
wise and enthusiastic counsel.
